Compassion Worship Series and Book Study
New this Fall!
Starting Rally Day, September 13 we will begin a new worship and study series on compassion-based on Gregg Louis Taylor's book, Here Now With You: Six Movements of Compassion for Life and Leadership. During these six weeks, we will be invited to pay attention to six ways of experiencing God's movement of compassion in our own lives. There is no better time for us in this season of pause to reflect upon our lives and our ability to contribute to the world through compassion. In the forward to the book, Gregory Boyle writes, "By learning to be compassionate just as God is, we become more authentically connected to one another and expand our awareness of the God who is always here." Ruth Walls recommended the book to me after our Advent Worship series looking at the intersecting experiences of joy and compassion. I have been deeply moved by this short, sound, easy to read book and I know you will be too. Pastor Susan P.S. Start planning on inviting friends to worship and study.
Sign up now for a new class starting by Zoom on Wednesday evenings starting September 16 from 7-8:30 pm by emailing Ruth Walls at ruthwalls72@gmail.com. Books may be purchased through Cokesbury or Amazon or obtained at your local library.
Starting Tuesday, July 28th through Sept. 8th - from 7 - 8:15 pm we will gather via Zoom and discuss Marcus Borg's book, Days of Awe and Wonder - How to Be a Christian in the 21st Century. Marcus Borg (1942-2015) was a canon theologian at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, OR and the Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at Oregon State University. He also happens to be Pastor Justin's favorite contemporary theologian. Please email or text Pastor Justin if you would like to join this 7-week study. The cost of the book is $10 (we have 8 copies) or can be ordered online.
