Racial Justice Prayer and Action Challenge
You've read previously about the upcoming prayer and action challenge, beginning on June 19th. A full description of the challenge appears in a flier in this issue of the Highlighter.
In order to make the challenge a success, we encourage our First UMC church family to read and record prayers for racial equity written by United Methodist clergy and laity around the world through the General Commission of Religion and Race.
You can sign up to record a pre-written prayer to be shared online on the church's website, with time slots after church services this Sunday, June 12 and next Sunday, June 19. Recordings will take place on the 3rd floor Children and Family wing in Room 302 from 8:50-10:15 and 12:00-1:30pm. Manual signup is available at the Welcome Desk.
Take the challenge....record a pre-written prayer and pray with us daily beginning 6/19/22.
Introducing the full Racial Equity Prayer and Action Challenge……
1. Pray daily using the prepared prayers on the First UMC website. Share the prayers on your own social media
2. Take Action. Each week there will be anti-racist actions. Pick one and do it.
3. Incorporate the liturgy into worship. Liturgies at First Church will be offered up each week with a special focus on racial equity.
4. Host a community prayer service for racial equity. Plans are being formed now for FUMC to host an outdoor, public service this summer.
Our Christian principles charge us to be a community of prayer and action. It's our hope you will accept this challenge and we will all be energized, blessed and become better allies by participation.
Stay tuned for details. See below for your first "challenge" during the week of kickoff, June 18th:
