The fourth week of our challenge is titled Reconciliation. It is based in 2 Corinthians 5:16-21. There are some familiar verses in this scripture, which also includes, “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.” The Action Step for this week is to find out who were the original inhabitants of the land you occupy and adopt a land acknowledgement practice. You can use this link as a resource to better understand your Wisconsin land heritage https://wisconsinfirstnations.org/
You can watch your First Church friends reading the Reconciliation prayers, on the First Church Facebook page or at the First Church website, www.firstumckenosha.org.
Our other three challenges to date have been, talk to your children about race, donate to an organization working for racial justice and equity, and use your racial privilege to dismantle the system that gives you that privilege. The later will be the focus of an after- service discussion this Sunday, July 10th at 11:45 in the Wesley Wing. The agenda and outline of the discussion is in the link below.
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, July 14th. There will be a Courageous Conversation discussion on Racism and its Connection to Antisemitism. This will be held at the Kenosha Civil War Museum from 6-8 PM.
